(continued from another blog)
...Anyway, that was the most amusing thing to happen all day. Other than a little conversation that took place at lunch today…god why did that have to be brought up? I mean, everything was fine when we just didn’t talk about it, nothing was said, and everyone did their own thing. Apparently that wasn’t good enough, I guess. We have to have an official “what you do doesn’t bother me and nothing in your past or beliefs matters except here and now and the idea that we can respect one another’s religious views.”
I honestly have a bad taste in my mouth after simply typing that.
Just so these types of thing (or at least the events that spawned it) don’t happen again, let me get right down and say it plainly, clearly, and without hesitation:
I don’t hate [most] Mormons. I have nothing against the family-oriented and hard-working values taught and followed. In fact, that’s probably the thing I admire the most: the idea that a devout believer will be honest and hard-working.
However, the thing I do have a problem with is the empty-headed, loud-mouthed, self-righteous, overly-zealous members of the church that run around damning (oops, I mean “condemning”) everyone to hell for not being the perfect example of Jesus. I can live with whatever you do in your life as long as you don’t stick your face in where it doesn’t belong into circumstances and history you know nothing about and telling people that they’re not following the ways of the prophets.
The few of you (and I mean few. 2 or 3 perhaps) that haven’t tried to condemn me for letting people do their own thing: brilliant job. You let me do my thing, I let you do yours, and we get along great.
There are times when I know I probably shouldn’t have said something (Jesus jokes), but Doug’s let it slide. Why? Because he doesn’t take it personally. He’s not offended by me and what I say…he makes the smarter choice and doesn’t get offended. Good job Doug. *high five*
I know I haven’t named those few others, but I’m pretty sure you know who you are. If you had to think about it, then you’re probably slightly down on that particular ladder.
